"Fairy tales are more than true. Not because they tell us that dragons exist. But because they tell us that dragons can be defeated.

About the artist

The artist, born in Nuremberg in 1950, studied philosophy and art history in Erlangen before attending the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg. From 1978 to 1980 he lived in New York and then in Cologne until 1995. During this time, Bergmann had numerous exhibitions and performances: Ha.Jo. Müller Gallery and Rolf Ricke Gallery in Cologne, Casini Gallery in Paris, Museum of Calais and at Margarete Roeder Gallery in N.Y. together with Richard Deacon.

A long-standing patron of his home town of Nuremberg supported the realisation of interesting projects in its diverse properties. Sculpture, photography, spatial installation, performance, music, and text are the expressive media with which the artist explores space and atmosphere. With the founding of „Borgo-Ensemble“ in Fürth in 2010, a creative collective emerged alongside his own studio activities with artist friends, which presents itself through exhibitions, music, readings, and films. From the existing material inventory and the feeling of security in his own memories, accommodation for travellers was created in the 18Arts Hotel – the fairytale room.

Reiner Bergmann on the room

All the objects in this room are parts of my own life and the memories associated with them. The central piece of furniture is my grandmother's bed, which has accompanied me through various stages of living and life. During this time, the object was constantly artistically modified and has now found its place in the 18Arts Hotel, surrounded by other pieces of furniture from my own past. A picture as a window to humorous illusion. The actual window to the courtyard is formed by a light installation.

The photo work is titled: A Day in the Life of an Unknown King – Wandering Through the Ages. This space is the result of my long-term engagement with architecture and nature – it is functional and its colouring supports the acoustics of the room. Reading and being read to was already of great importance in my childhood. Therefore, guests will find a small selection of literature and audiobooks in the fairytale room to enjoy their stay in a fairytale-like manner.

We were there for the second time and are simply delighted with the hotel once again. The rooms are clean, the staff are friendly and every single room is just so well furnished. The next short holiday in this hotel is already planned 🙂

Beautiful and fairly central location in a lively neighbourhood. Wonderful, spotlessly clean room with a good bed and great breakfast. Service and booking, as well as help with problem solving (self-inflicted) was perfect. Thanks again for that! You have to be aware that the parking facilities are a few metres away from the hotel itself (but at a reasonable price) and that the hotel does not have a lift. On hot summer nights, the lack of air conditioning (at least in this room under the roof) could be a the roof) could be a drawback, but was not an issue during this stay. Overall a great stay stay and a highly recommended accommodation. We will be back.

Room was clean and very nice, reception very friendly. Nice little touches little touches such as kettle, hot water bottle, coffee/tea, hairdryer and hair straightener. We were thrilled! The price-performance ratio is definitely right. The city centre and train station, as well as numerous cafés and bistros are within easy walking distance. The "Big in Japan" room has a friendly, quiet atmosphere to make you feel at home.

Highly recommended! A well-designed hotel with a unique concept - each room is individually designed by artists and you can feel it in every detail. We felt completely at ease and would come back anytime! come back again! There was a little curiosity in the "Love-Lyric-Lounge": intimacy is very important here is very important here - so much so that even the toilet has no partition. This requires a certain closeness or takes it to a whole new level. But those who love each other share everything, right?

It was perfect for us Beautiful accommodation in a great location. There is no lift, you have to climb some stairs. We didn't mind, but you should know that.

Feel-good rooms in a city hotel - simply great. I particularly liked the fact that there are different themed rooms. This creates a very individual and personal atmosphere. You can see a lot of attention to detail in the rooms and the hotel should retain this. Simply beautiful. The breakfast at the Hotel Mercure was was also very appealing and there was plenty to choose from. We'll see you again :-).
