Born in Aachen and raised in Baesweiler, the painter Renate Müller-Drehsen studied, among others, at the Werkkunstschule in Aachen under Prof. Ernst Wille, and at the Düsseldorf Art Academy under Prof. Fritz Schwegler and Prof. Gerhard Richter. She is represented in several important galleries.
Müller-Drehsen was invited by Klaus Schulz as a freelance costume and set designer to the Aachen City Theatre. She also led various art projects both at home and abroad, including for students of the Goethe-Institut in Cairo and Alexandria, as well as Israeli/Palestinian projects in the Gaza Strip. She has a well-functioning network with her Spanish colleagues. Müller-Drehsen sees her numerous trips abroad as an important expansion of her personality and her artistic work.
For 18Arts, Renate Müller-Drehsen has designed a *Amber Room. A theme the artist has been exploring for several years. Anyone who has ever seen the richness of nuance in the brown, red, and yellow tones of her amber works will quickly understand why this material is constantly found in her creations.
The subject of „amber“ has been a significant part of my work for some time. When designing the hotel room, it was particularly important to me that the space radiated tranquility. Even if it's grey, cold, and rainy outside, I wanted to create a room that was calm and harmonious. A space that one enjoys spending time in. I designed all the furniture in my amber room myself. In doing so, I placed importance on all the furniture pieces having rounded corners, meaning they have no sharp or pointed edges. Just as amber occurs naturally.
