The starting point for my “room machine” room design was functionality. I also wanted to create a kind of multi-purpose room – a ‚do-it-yourself room,’ so to speak, where the guest is encouraged to rearrange the furniture. For this reason, all furniture is also equipped with castors. As a counterpoint to the pure functionality of the individual elements (bed, wardrobe, table, etc.), I wanted to use strong colours to make the furniture appear playful, almost like toys. The second element is the „immovable,“ i.e. the ceiling, floor, and walls.

The design extends from the high-gloss lacquered ceiling and speckled, matt walls to the alternating striped Siberian birch wood floor, which brings both design features together.

Then there's the third, surreal or „irrational“ element – the metallic, industrially manufactured golden folding chair with leopard cushions – which emphasises the idea of the „room machine“ by combining both functionality and luxury.
